TEHRAN (IQNA) – Al-Azhar University in Egypt has launched a plan to enhance the capabilities and skills of the country’s Quran teachers.

Al-Azhar Initiative Aimed at Boosting Egyptian Quran Teachers’ Skills

Implementing the initiative, dubbed “Iqra, Wa Irtaq, Wa Rattil (Read, Ascend, Recite)”, has begun with the start of the Arab country’s new school year.

The Quranic skills of the Quran teachers taking part in the program and their mastery over the rules of recitation and Tajweed are assessed first and then efforts will be made to boost their skills.

The Quranic plan has been devised at the order of Al-Azhar chief Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayyeb with the aim of making Quranic courses in schools more fruitful for students.

Abul Yazid Salama, director of Quranic affairs department at Al-Azhar, said all teachers, including those teaching the Quran, should pay attention to reinforce their skills and growing professionally as they are role models for their students.

He also said that Al-Azhar seeks to strengthen regulations about teaching the Quran, memorization and Quranic sciences in schools.
